Standard Contract for Curators

The Swedish Curators’ Association is now launching the first version of a standard contract with suggested rates for curators – a practical tool that clarifies assignments, terms, and compensation. The need for a shared template has long been requested by our members, and its development has taken place in close dialogue with both institutions and legal experts.

The contract aims to strengthen the professional role of curators, promote transparency, and provide better conditions for collaboration between curators and art institutions. It also represents an important step towards a future industry standard and a clearer framework for curatorial work.

The contracts are available below in Swedish, with an English translation to follow.

Bringing Art to Audiences – Curators’ Working Conditions in Sweden

The report, conducted by the Swedish Curators’ Association during the winter of 2022-2023, was based on a comprehensive survey addressing the working conditions, needs, and demands of professional curators active in Sweden. Its primary objective was to provide an initial assessment of the professional environment faced by curators. The findings aim to deepen understanding of curators’ roles and working conditions, while also serving as a foundation for the association’s continued efforts to advocate for and support the curatorial profession.

The report is available in Swedish, below:
